A modern trend in medical chemistry is the design of multifunctional medicaments with an extensive spectrum of action. The review considers one of the routes to such merdicaments: introduction of nitrogen monoxide-generating enzymes into the molecules of known drugs. Examples of synthesis and results of biological activity assays for O-nitro derivatives of various drugs are presented. © 2009 Russian Academy of Sciences and Turpion Ltd.
