«It's something that unites us» – in the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry was opened a memorial stand

Ovchinnikov Institute of bioorganic chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IBCh RAS) opening ceremony of the memorial stand dedicated to planting birch alley outstanding scientists – members of Congress FEBS 1984. The event was opened by Director of Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry Vadim Tihonovich Ivanov. He reminded the audience about how there was this birch alley near the building of the institute.

«You know that in 1984, after having been put into operation the first building of the Institute, held FEBS – Congress of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies. It was attended by many foreign scholars to pay tribute to our country's science and report on their own progress. Jury Ovchinnikov, at a time when organized this Congress has provided an interesting event: the landing top scientists – and Nobel laureates, and those who were close to him on his level – birch avenue, which is behind me.
Alley, as you see, has grown and matured. And today we are celebrating the fact that we set the stand dedicated to and describing the process of planting, paths, and the fact that it was, and why it was done, and what it means for employees of IBCh» – said Vadim Tihonovich.

Director of Science-Educational center IBCh Tatyana Ovchinnikova in his speech said that the symbol of which is the birch alley for employees of the institute:
«When we moved into this comfortable and beautiful building, I felt that it was fraught with certain dangers. We like atomized – each will have its own laboratory, their grants, their equipment. But there are things that unite us. And of them today and there is a speech – this stand of our common history, Congress FEBS, on this avenue. All this is what unites us.
As for birch alley – it is a symbol of Russian birch. It grows even when it is difficult to do so. So we, I believe, have, no matter what, and to take care of the building of the Institute and of the birch alley, and all that we hold dear».

Separately, all the speakers thanked the Council of young scientists of IBCh RAS, whose members helped to organize this gala event.
After the opening ceremony the guests stand expecting a celebratory banquet in the open air, as well as concert music band institution to please everyone present remarkable performance uncompromising "biochemical" rock.
