Foreign journalists visited the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry

Scientists of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences works closely with different international research institutions. Now is the time to work in another area of international scientific communication and to establish links with the international community journalism. That is why the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, along with the Institute for Information Transmission Problems (IITP RAS), Space Research Institute (SRI), and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), hosted a delegation of foreign journalists within the scientific press tour in Russia on June 15, initiated by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).

Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry RAS is expanding the network of international relations. So, on June 15 IBCh scientists told about their research and organized a tour for foreign journalists who visit Russia within the scientific press tour. The delegation included journalists from the UK ( "New Scientists", "The Independent", "Physics World") and German ( "Welt Trends", "VDI nachrichten").

Guests met the director of Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry Vadim Ivanov and head of international scientific relations department Sergey Zavriev. Professor Ivanov moderated the discussion during the presentation of the Institute's research.

– Welcome to one of the main centers of physical and chemical biology and biotechnology in Russia! We are engaged in studies of living matter and study the molecular mechanisms of life processes, and develop the fundamental and applied aspects of biotechnology. The results of our work are used in medicine and agriculture, – Vadim T. welcomed.

After the opening speech, the director made a small excursion into the history and construction of the Institute and gave the floor to the main speakers of the program. That were Alexander Vassilevski ("Neurotoxins as potential drugs"), Andrew Garazha ("Effective individualized selection of drugs for cancer patients"), Ilya Yampolsky ("New mechanisms of bioluminescence in nature: isolation, structure elucidation and possible applications of novel luciferin-luciferase systems") and Alexey Belogurov ("Molecular medicine. Next generation of therapeutics to treat Multiple Sclerosis"). The final report "Biological Safety Problem: agriculture and the environment. Expert View" was told by professor Zavriev.

Journalists were particularly interested in the topic of neurotoxins and bioluminescence. Communication with the guest speakers continued during the coffee break.

In the second part of the visit, the delegation saw the Innovative center "Technopark", Laboratory of biomolecular NMR-spectroscopy and the Experimental biotechnology plant.

Scientific press tour in Russia organized by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) to strengthen the brand of Russian science abroad, as well as to establish the contacts between the community journalism and Russian scientists.
