The delegation of foreign journalists visited the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry for the second time

The Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry (IBCh) visited by a delegation of foreign mass media representatives within the press tour "Russian Science Week", organized by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the "Communication Laboratory" project of the Russian Venture Company. The foreign journalists meeting from world-known mass media with the leading young specialists from IBCh held at February 28, 2017.

The purpose of the tour "Russian Science Week" is popularization of the Russian Education and Science for the international audience. The event established personal contacts between the leading Russian scientists and key foreign journalists that in the future should lead to broader and more effective coverage of Russian Science abroad.

The press tour was attended by representatives of some foreign media:  American Scientists (USA), International Business Times (India), Motherboard VICE, Le Figaro, Le Monde и Daily Mail. The Russian side was represented by one of the leading scientific and educational institutions in the country: the Shemyakin-Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry RAS, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna), the Russian Quantum Centre, the Space Research Institute RAS, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, the Biocad company and the BioVitrum company.

A meeting at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry included a presentation of some of the main activities of the Institute, as well as excursions. The academician, director of the Institute Vadim Ivanov said a welcome speech. Professor Ivanov briefly spoke about the history of the Institute and its modern development, then the word was given to the young members of Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry: Alexander Vassilevski with the theme "Neurotoxins as potential drugs", Ilya Yampolsky, who told about new mechanisms of bioluminescence in nature and the latest developments on his Group, and Andrew Garazha, who affected the effective individualized selection of drugs for cancer patients which Anton Buzdin studies. Communication between guests and speakers was continued during the coffee break.

During the excursion tour the foreign journalists visited the Total Synthesis Lab, the Laboratory of Biomolecular NMR-spectroscopy and the Experimental Biotechnology Plant.

The meeting finished with a lunch with academician Vadim Ivanov. The guests was interested in science financing mechanism in Russia, the "Brain Drain" problem and any changes in science and technology in Russian over the past 10 years, as well as the question of scientific communication. Both sides agreed on the fact that almost all countries have similar problems.

The next day, March 1, 2017, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry took part in another event organized within the press tour "Russian Science Week". Press tour participants met at the restaurant "Pushkin" in Moscow center on a business luncheon to discuss the Russian scientist’s research and developments and to agree on further cooperation in the speed-dating format.

Press tour for foreign journalists in Russia "Russian Science Week" is held for the second time. For the first time representatives of the foreign media (New Scientists, The Independent, Physics World, Welt Trends and VDI nachrichten) visited the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry June 15, 2016. According to the results of the meeting in The Guardian newspaper released a large text about the Institute’s research.
